Moon landings and Microbes; you don't have to be a rocket scientist.

This week in Ireland we learned that 1/3 of those confirmed COVID-19 positive are healthcare workers. Defacto our healthcare workers are most at risk of contracting COVID-19. As we open up the country surely those most at risk now are those healthcare professionals dealing with the oral and nasal cavity i.e. ENT staff, dentists and anesthetists, that’s not rocket science! It may be 50 years on from NASA protecting the world from “Moon Germs” using Povidone-iodine (PVP-I), its time we should be using it to protect our healthcare staff.  This week evidence has been published for safe nasal and oral use for upto 5 months and separately evidence for 15 seconds inactivation time. Surely it is only one small step to see transmission reduction will be next but by then it could be too late !
